The campaign season in Yorktown has been hard fought, with the ‘New Day’ slate drawing attention to the Town Board’s support of a bad garbage contract with Competitive Carting, campaign donations from those doing business with Yorktown, a 10% increase in garbage taxes, widespread flooding and infrastructure failures, and a tentative budget proposed without any audit of the Town’s finances.
The ‘New Day’ slate highlighted these issues with the help of Yorktown’s residents - through their 6 month campaign, the slate spoke with over 4,500 voters and knocked on over 12,000 doors all over Town, in order to understand what Yorktown’s residents really wanted to see from their government.
Jann Mirchandani said: “Yorktown needs an intentional response to the challenges we are facing. The ‘New Day’ slate have worked through a lot of shoe leather building a coalition that will deliver for this Town. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are grateful to Yorktown’s residents for the time they took to talk to us, and to tell us what they want to see from their Town Government.”
Diana Quast said: “I love Yorktown. I’ve been honored to serve as Town Clerk for the last 8 years. I love my job. I get to help the people here who need it the most. I am grateful to the people that live here for allowing me to serve through these last two terms - and I hope to continue my service.”
Tom Marron said: “Working for my community has always been important to me. This campaign has been an extension of that. I got into this race because I wanted to make sure the voices of our Town’s residents were heard - and I believe we’ve accomplished that. I am honored by the attention and dignity with which Yorktown’s residents have considered our perspectives - and it is my hope that we are given a chance to deliver for the community that we all cherish on November 7th.”
Steve Shaw said: “This campaign has been hard-fought. The people of Yorktown have a lot of questions that need to be answered. If elected, we will work to deliver real answers, not politically beneficial semantics. We’ve put a lot of time and intention towards this election while our opponents are putting out campaign ads for Yorktown, Virginia. I’m grateful for the consideration our perspective has been paid, and I hope we are given a chance to deliver for this wonderful community.”
The 'New Day for Yorktown’ slate are in the final stretch of their campaign to deliver for Yorktown: Early voting will run through Sunday, November 5th, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th.
