What is the BCBS prefix starting with R? ›

Most BCBS member IDs start with a three-character prefix. FEP member IDs start with the letter R. BCBS member ID prefixes are used to quickly route claims and electronic inquires. Prefixes may also indicate specific network and benefit plan information.

By now, you should have received your new BCBS member ID card(s) your subscriber ID beginning with the 3-letter prefix 'XXP' indicating the PPO Deductible Plan. Please remember to update your medical providers and pharmacy with your new insurance information to avoid any claims issues.

Alpha prefixes are used in conjunction with the identification number to identify the member's coverage and route claims appropriately. NOTE: Members covered by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program (FEP) have an alpha prefix of “R" followed by the supporting member ID number.

The alpha prefix is critical for inquiries regarding the member, including eligibility and benefits, and is necessary for proper claim filing.  When filing a claim, always enter the ID number, including the alpha prefix, exactly as it appears on the member's card.

The alpha prefix will identify the patient's BCBS Plan (for example: ZGP for Texas), the National Account to which the member belongs (for example: HBT for Halliburton) or the patient's international BCBS Plan (for example: ZZC for Italy).

Medicare HealthPlus Select can be identified with a subscriber ID prefix of RXJ. Medicare HealthPlus Select is a custom-tailored set of new plans comprised of a more focused composition of providers and hospitals.

For members with a PXN prefix, remember to see a provider in the Network Blue network while you are in the state of Florida.

Most Central States Trust members reside in the Midwest and southern regions of the country, and can be identified by the following main indicators on their member ID cards: PPO-in-a-suitcase logo. Alpha prefix: TEA.
