The Lower Anthracite Model Railroad Club will hold an Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in conjunction with the Anthracite Heritage Festival. MEMORIAL WEEKEND SERVICE/Danville

A Memorial Day weekend service to honor the life and sacrifice of Ceylon Miller and all veterans who died in service to this country held at 9:30 a.m. atMooresburg Presbyterian Church, 21 Church Road. Miller, at 27 years old, was killed April 17, 1944, while serving his country in Italy. This year is the 80th anniversary of his sacrifice. Visit the Mooresburg One Room Schoolhouse at649 Liberty Valley Road, Route 642, from 1 to 4 p.m. The schoolhouse is set up for students to come in, sit down, and start class. Also open is the Carriage House filled with Montour County items from the past. While visiting the schoolhouse see the World War II watch box which was used in Mooresburg to watch for enemy planes coming over the ridge during WWII. Members of MCHS and children under 18 admitted free; non-members, $5.

MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION & PARADE/Danville

The Montour County Veterans Memorial Day celebration begins at 10 a.m. in Zamboni Park commemorating the veterans who cannot come home with a ceremony at the Riverside Bridge. From there a parade continues to Memorial Park where our fallen will be honored. In case of rain, the final ceremonies will be held at the Danville Middle School Auditorium.

SINGERCISE CLASS/Lewisburg

Singercise is a therapeutic singing program for people with Parkinson’s disease and their carepartners offered by the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA free of charge. The program aims to work out all of those little muscles involved in speaking and singing that we don’t usually think about, while providing a source of social support in a fun and engaging setting. Class will be every Monday. In person class: 11:30 a.m. at the Lewisburg YMCA; virtual class: 1 p.m., via Zoom.Registration is required and class slots are available on a first come, first served basis. Register at gsvymca.org. Dr. Katherine Faull of Bucknell University will discuss the diaries kept by Moravian missionaries at Shamokin, a Native American town at present-day Sunbury. Penn State University Press recently published her book, "Cultures at the Susquehanna Confluence: The Diaries of the Moravian Mission to the Iroquois Confederacy, 1745–1755." The book depicts frontier life at the confluence of the North and West branches in the decade before the French and Indian War. The Lewisburg Children’s Museum will host its annual Kid Olympics from 2-4 p.m. June 9on the athletic field behind the LCM/GreenSpace Center at 815 Market St.Kids will participate in various physical activities (such as “javelin” throw, obstacle course, limbo, and 20-40 meter dash) to compete for the gold. The team from Stack’D Fit will lead all participants in warm-up activities and the event will be “bouncing” with the help of DJ Donnie Mapes.
