Micheál Donoghue is back in charge of his native Galway with the county’s hurling supporters hoping he can work the oracle again after guiding the seniors to Liam MacCarthy Cup success in 2017. That’s the only time Galway have won All-Ireland honours since the double success of 1987-88 and Donoghue returns, as expected, after stepping down from his post with Dublin. When he departed that position after leading Dublin to a Leinster final, he was favoured to succeed Henry Shefflin who spent three years in charge of Galway. And he now looks set to be appointed for a four-year term after being recommended by the county’s management committee for the role. He brought Galway again to the 2018 All-Ireland final where they just lost out to an emerging Limerick side but the Tribesmen have failed to live up to expectation since. A statement from Galway GAA read: ‘Micheál and his management team will be put forward for a four-year term at Monday night’s County Committee meeting. Davy Fitzgerald turns to hurling great after unveiling Antrim management team ‘We look forward to working closely with Micheál and his management team and wish them all the very best in the years ahead.’ Today's top videos
