Hakkar the Soulflayer is the final boss of Zul'Gurub, found in his main templein the center of the raid. Once you have killed all of his Priests and Priestesses, you are ready to take him on. He also drops some of the best gear in the instance, making him very worthwhile to defeat.
1.
Hakkar Summary by Role
- You will want 2 tanks.
- Hakkar is taunt immune, so both tanks will need to continuously build threatto ensure they are always at the top two spots.
- Tanks will sometimes get mind controlled (which is the tank swap), so be sureto keep
Intimidating Shout on cooldown if you are a Warrior.
1.2.
Healers
- Try to stay spread, so as to not chain
Corrupted Blood.
Blood Siphon being cast will mark a period of high raid damage, so be ready for it.
1.3.
DPS
- Ranged DPS need to stay spread to not chain
Corrupted Blood.
- Assign a Hunter to pull the Son of Hakkar towards the raid group once
Blood Siphon is near, but do not kill it until a few seconds before the cast.
2.
General Tips for Hakkar
- Everyone needs to be near the Son of Hakkar that you should have your Hunterpull to the raid group before
Blood Siphon is cast. This is the most importantmechanic of the fight. Once the add dies, run into the poison cloud and get the debuffbefore Hakkar casts
Blood Siphon.
- Ranged DPS and Healers should spread as much as possible to not chain the
Corrupted Blood.Melee can spread some, but will be limited by space.
- Tank swaps can be scary if you are not expecting them, so be ready for the tanksgetting mind controlled.
3.
Important Abilities
Blood Siphon allows Hakkar to drain the life of all raid members to healhimself when cast. However, if everyone gets the
Poisonous Blood debufffrom killing the Son of Hakkar, he will hurt himself from draining yourblood instead.
Corrupted Blood is a chain-able cast that deals damage to a target, leavinga DoT on them, and canpotentially chain to nearby targets as well. Ranged DPS and Healers should be spread whenpossible, but you will need to group to get the
Poisonous Blood.
Cause Insanity will mind control the current tank. The off-tank shouldpick up Hakkar while the mind controlled tank waits it out.
4.
Strategy for Hakkar
Hakkar is the final boss of Zul'Gurub, but can technically be engaged before killingany other bosses. However, for every High Priest or Priestess left alive when engagingHakkar, he will gain extremely powerful buffs and abilities, making him much harder to kill. You should always kill all of the High Priests and Priestesses before attempting Hakkar.
The most important mechanic of the fight is the Blood Siphon cast thatHakkar will periodically do. When Hakkar uses this, he will stun the raid for 8 seconds, draining everyone's life. This will normally heal Hakkar, however, if everyonehas the
Poisonous Blood debuff, he will damage himself instead. To ensureeveryone can get this, you will want to assign a Hunter or a ranged to pull oneof the Son of Hakkar adds from the side stairs onto the main platform. Keepthe add there, and at some point before the
Blood Siphon cast, you will want tokill the add. The Son of Hakkar will leave a pool of poison upon death, which if you runinto, you will get the
Poisonous Blood debuff. Have everyone get this debufffrom a Son of Hakkar's poison cloud before every
Blood Siphon cast.
Aside from the Blood Siphon, there are two main abilities to worry about. The firstis the tank mind control, the Cause Insanity. This is the tank swap mechanic ofthe fight, and the tank will just be mind controlled for 10 seconds before returning tonormal. Hakkar is immune to taunts, however, so it is critical that your two tanks arethe top two on the threat meters at all times. If your tanks are Warriors, they shouldalso make sure to use their
Intimidating Shouts, so they do not accidentally fear the raidwhile mind controlled. Lastly, Ranged DPS and Healers need to be spread around theroom to avoid chaining the
Corrupted Blood. As long as everyone is reasonably spread, this should not pose a problem and will only deal a bit of damage to some people.
