Yorktown Heights [1] is a township in Westchester County in the state of New York in the United States of America. This town is very spread out. It contains tall green trees down throughout the town of wide streets. On other main roads, such as route 118 the roads become narrower with tall broad trees on both of the sides of the street. The air is always crisp due to the mountainous environment.

By plane[edit]

• Westchester County Airport, 240 Airport Road, White Plains (New York), +1 914 995-4860 (airlines), [2]. The closest airport, about 30 minutes drive. Rental cars are available.
• Stewart International Airport, 1180 First St, New Windsor, +1 845 564-2100, [3]. Another alternative to the congestion of the 3 major airports, but at present offers few direct flights.
• Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey, [4], John F. Kennedy International Airport [5], and LaGuardia Airport [6]: The three major international airports in the New York City area offer service to just about anywhere. Westchester-based taxi and livery cars offer regular service to and from the three internationals from most areas of the county. New York City yellow cabs will take to you Westchester in a pinch, but the fares can be exorbitant. If staying in Westchester, ask if your hotel offers shuttle service.

By Car[edit]

Traveling by car is the most effective way to get in and around Yorktown Heights. If coming from the North, such as Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut take Governor John Davis Lodge Turnpike South also known as 95 South. Then follow to Cross Westchester Expressway West until the Sprain Brook Parkway South. Once on the Sprain Brook take the exit Underhill Avenue- Yorktown Heights/Croton on Hudson. [7]

Yorktown Heights does not have a train station. The closes train station and one of the easiest lines is Mount Kisco. Mount Kisco train station is about a 15-minute car find into the town of Yorktown Heights.

• Metro-North Railroad - Hudson line, This line goes between New York City’s Grand Central Terminal and Poughkeepsie. From Grand Central to Mount Kisco Train station it is about a 60 minute ride. Local stops throughout Westchester, such as White Plains, Katonah and Bedford, are in between Grand Central and Mount Kisco. [8]

By Car is the most convenient way to get around Yorktown Heights. The town is approximately 593 acres so it is a fairly small town to drive around.

By Foot[edit]

The town itself has a bike path called North Country Trail Way. This bike bath goes throughout the whole town making it easy to walk basically anywhere.

By Taxi[edit]

There is many taxi companies but you need to call to have them pick you up. It is rare to see taxi's available driving around.

• Faraway Farm Alpacas 1315 Baptist Church Road +1 914 962-2110 [9] An awesome place to see on a Fall or Summer day. This farm has many different type and size alpacas. You can get very close to them and even pet them. There is also very pretty scenery around this farm so make sure you bring a camera.

• First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown 2880 Crompond Road +1 914 245-2186 [10] This is a must stop historical church that was built in 1840 in Yorktown Heights. When pulling up ones mouth will drop seeing the gorgeous old fashion four huge white columns. This church has been apart of the town for almost 300 years. Over these 300 years the church has been protected and very well maintained to today’s date.

• Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park 2957 Crompond Road [11] This is a must see in Yorktown Heights. This park is very big with lovely scenery, a pool and multiple lakes. It is a perfect place to go for a long walk or to have a picnic on the many fields of grass or numerous picnic tables. There is also many grills throughout this park. Keep in mind during summer this park can tend to get very crowded so if you want a nice spot in the park get there early.

• Angelface Day Spa, 322 Underhill Ave +1 914 245-1084 [12] One of the only spa’s located in Yorktown. As soon as you walked in you are simply relaxed with the soothing music and smell of fresh air. This spa offers many services, which include, facials, massage therapy, nails and men services. All the workers are friendly and make you feel very comfortable. Call a week or more in advance to book an appointment.

• Mohansic Golf Course, 1500 Baldwin Road +1 914 862-5283 [13] This is a golf course that is open to the public. This golf course is a nice getaway to clear ones head and play some golf in Yorktown Heights. Definitely go when the weather is nice out to make the most of your outing. It cost 31 dollars to walk 18 holes. It has a pro shop with all very friendly and helpful workers.

• North Country Trail Way, Commerce Street [14] This bike trail goes for miles throughout the town. It is beautiful taking you into the hidden woods, with trees surrounded by you on both sides. It is open to all runners, walkers, dogs and bikes. If you take the train about 3 miles toward Croton you will go over a big red bridge, that takes you over the Croton reservoir made just for the trail. The views from the bridge are spectacular on a nice warm day, seeing the mountains in the distance.

• Pick-your-own fruit and vegetables, 1335 White Hill Rd +1 914 245-5111 [15] This happens at Wilken Farm, August through November. It is a wonderful attraction for those of all ages. You can pick fruits, like apples, pears and pumpkins. Make sure you get there early on the weekend it can get very packed.

• Sparkle Lake, 176 Granite Springs Road +1 914 962-5722 [16] Sparkle Lake is a public sand beach located on Sparkle Lake. This beach is small. Since it is a lake, it has a smooth current. This beach is more popular during summer. Every summer there is a lifeguard and a roped off place for swimming so it is very safe. During the winter the lake is open to the public. On cold days once the lake freezes over many people go skating and play ice hockey. Make sure the late is approved of the right temperature before skating.

• Turkey Mountain, Locke Ave [17] Hidden off of route 118 is a long dirt road, surrounded by many trees that leads to a parking lot. There are about four different trails ranging from .07 to 2.0 miles that lead to the top of the mountain. Bring bug spray if you plan to walk up the trails to the top. On a clear day on top of the mountain you can see beautiful views of the Croton Reservoir and Manhattan skyline. It is a mouth dropping view if you are able to see the Manhattan skyline.

• Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce Street +1 914 962-0606 [18] Almost everyone in Yorktown Heights knows of Yorktown Stage. This place offers kids ages 8-18 a chance to be in a performing art show. Shows include, Seussical Jr., Cinderella and many more. The hours are a lot but in the end the shows always end up phenomenal. Yorktown Stage also offers a summer camp. This camp mainly focuses on performing arts and at the end of the summer performs the show they have been working on.

• Francesca’s, 650 Lee Boulevard Suite G08A +1 914 245-0394 [19] This store is located in the Jefferson Valley Mall. Once walking into this boutique, ones eyes will be draw to the numerous amount of statement jewelry. Surrounding the walls of the stores is many dresses, skirts and skirt will all a preppy trend. This store also has fun décor, such as mugs, quotes, paintings and much more. One will love this store if looking for décor or clothing.

• Jewelry Center, 650 Lee Boulevard Suite B06 +1 914 245-2555 [20] Jewelry Center has all different kind of jewelry. From rings to necklaces this store has all of them. When walking into this store one will see the dark brown jewelry cases. This store is a more upscale jewelry store that sells, gold, silver and white gold. All the workers are very helpful and want to help you pick out a gift for yourself or someone else.

• Wishes Boutique, 1811 Commerce Street +1 914 962-9474 [21] This store is a small boutique that has lots of merchandise. A good time to come to this store is in the morning. If you come in the late afternoon it may be crowded and hard to walk around. The merchandised includes jewelry, personal accessories, home items and yummy treats. Be sure to try there chocolate popcorn pizza, it's amazing for special occasions.

• Dante’s Deli III, 1804 Front Street +1 914 243-4945, [22]. Said to be one of the best delis in town. Very fast easy service. Known for its famous sandwich the “Wacky” which is bacon, ham, egg and potatoes on a roll. This deli many breakfast sandwiches along with deli sandwiches. If you are in a rush, especially in the morning definitely call ahead of time to place your order. Also don’t be fooled! The sign on the outside of the deli says Heavy Bear Delicatessen.

• Hirame, 369 Downing Drive +1 914 245-9016 [23]. Located right next to K Mart, is an Asian restaurant with very fresh sushi. The restaurant is small, with an Asian décor and calm soothing music. Rarely overcrowded this restaurant always has very fast service. Other then sushi this restaurant also has Thai and Chinese food.

• Peter Pratt’s Inn, 673 Croton Heights Road +1 914 962-4090 [24] Open Wednesday through Sunday is a restaurant located within a mountainous neighborhood. This restaurant looks like an old colonial house, with the white columns on the outside and maple trees surrounding the house. The food incorporates an American regional cuisine with a long list of many paired wines. If you plan to come on the weekend definitely make a reservation unless you want to wait to be seated. This restaurant is upscale with prices from 11 to 100 dollars.

• Trailside, 1807 Commerce Street +1 914 302-7331 [25] Located right off the bike path right next to front street is an all healthy, organic café. This café is very small and designed for an easy come and go, quick environment. It has food like sandwiches, salads, soups and fruit and green smoothies, along with many all-natural snacks and a breakfast menu. This place is lovely to go after a nice bike ride due to the location is right off the bike path.

• Twist Frozen Yogurt Bar & Sweet Shop, 2022 Saw Mill River Road +1 914 302-2600 [26] This frozen yogurt shop opened two years ago and has been the talk of the town. It is located in the center of town, next to Gaudio’s. The shop’s inside décor is fun with the bright colors of orange and pink throughout. Twist always has about ten flavors, with one flavor changing every week. There are over 20 different topping choices from opinions like fruit, to cookie dough bites. This shop also has frozen yogurt pies and pints to take to go.

• Yorktown Pastry Shop, 16 Triangle Center +1 914 245-6962 [27] Located right next to Acme is a Pastry shop that’s been around for years. This place has many options from strudel to French crullers. An all time favorite for many customers includes their jelly filled donuts.

Drink[edit]

• Murphy’s, 355 Kear Street +1 914 962- 1800 [28] This restaurant is a very lively Irish bar open till 2am every night. This bar is very big, with seating indoor and out. On a typical weekend after 11pm this bar will be packed with mostly older adults around their mid 40s. On Fridays they normally have live music. There are always fun events going on from, St. Patrick’s Day celebration, to a Christmas ugly sweater party.

• Yorktown Grille, 347 Downing Drive +1 914 352- 3600 [29] This bar use to be known as Finnegan’s Grill. The whole bar is covered in a wood finish. On a typical night there will be mainly younger locals around the age of mid 20s. The food is classic American bar food, which includes burgers, sandwiches, nachos and so on.

Sleep[edit]

There are no hotels located in Yorktown Heights. The closet hotel to this town would be Holiday Inn located at 1 Holiday Inn Drive, Mount Kisco, NY, located about 5 miles from Yorktown Heights. This hotel has rooms from two double beds to one king size bed room. All the rooms are decorated very modern and comfortable. [30]

If you have a car you and are willing to make a 25-minute car ride White Plains has a lot to offer. White Plains is a small city located in southern Westchester, New York. White Plains has many restaurants and bars as well as activities like movie theaters and ice-skating. This city is also the home of the mall The Westchester, which has many designer stores from Michael Kors to Sephora [31]. White Plains Train is also only 38-minute express train ride into New York City.
